Luis Alonso Schökel holds licentiates in philosophy and theology and   taught at the prestigious Pontifical Biblical Institute from 1958 until his death in 1998. He has published dozens of books and countless articles. His impact on Spanish language biblical studies has been enormous. Among other major works, he is the author of a Spanish translation of the Bible, Nueva Biblia Española, a Spanish-Hebrew dictionary, Diccionario Biblico Hebreo Español, and of the eighteen-volume Los Libros Sagrades.
