Elmer A. Martens holds a B.A. from the University of Saskatchewan, a B.Ed. from the University of Manitoba, a B.D. from the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary and a Ph.D. in Old Testament from Claremont Graduate School. He is a past president of Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary and has taught at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois, Union Biblical Seminary in Pune, India, Evangelical Bible Seminary in Osaka, Japan, Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology in Kenya, Regent College in Vancouver, New College in Berkeley, and Northwest Baptist Theological College and Seminary in Vancouver. He was a member of the Translation teams for the New American Standard Bible, the New King James Version, the New Living Bible, and a translation consultant for the International Children's Bible. From 1966 to 1971 He was the Chairman of the Board of Christian Literature of the Mennonite Brethren Hymnal Committee. He was the author of Jeremiah in the Believer's Church Bible Commentary Series, and co-editor of The Flowering of Old Testament Theology (Eisenbrauns, 1992).
