Our first logo was the Christian fish which had the acronym BIBAL inside it. It was a nice logo, but did not convey our commitment to both Christian and Jewish biblical scholarship. In August 1995, BIBAL Press introduced its new logo. It depicts an Assyrian cherub and is intended to call to mind our special interest in the study of biblical archaeology and literature in the service of both Jewish and Christian communities. Cherubim (plural of cherub) were important symbols in ancient Israel and were also prominent in the art of the early Christian church. Our cherub is an artist's conception, based on a partially damaged portion of an ivory inlay dating to the eighth or ninth century BCE which probably was once at home in the residence of an Assyrian governor.
